Career Experience
From 1998 to 2008, I tutored locally, starting almost by accident. As a high school sophomore, I offered to help a neighbor’s third-grader with English, and it turned out I had a real knack for it. Word of mouth spread quickly, and for the next six years I stayed steadily busy working with students one-on-one. Around 2003, I slowed down a bit to focus on starting a family and later on going back to school, though I continued tutoring on a lighter schedule through 2008. After that I stepped away for a while. This was before online tutoring had even taken off, but eventually I came back with fresh energy and updated methods. These days, I focus on reading, writing, ESL, and test prep, and I’m enjoying the opportunities modern platforms make possible.
I Love Tutoring Because
I get to watch people transform in such a positive way, and it feels incredible to know I’ve been trusted with something so important to them. Being part of that journey. Seeing their confidence grow and their skills take shape, is one of the best feelings. Tutoring ESL online has also opened up this amazing opportunity to meet people from all over the world, and I think it’s so neat to connect with so many different lives and stories through teaching.
